Grace's Journal of Events

Date: 05/06/2009

Yesterday, God blessed us with the presence of our BEAUTIFUL baby girl. The surgery went well and by 12:41, our love took her first breath. We are still deciding on a name for her but have narrowed it down to two and are looking forward to sharing it with her grandparents! Both sets of grandparents came to visit last evening and we proudly introduced them to their new granddaughter!

The first night went well. We moved into a bigger room at about 11:00 p.m. last night gladly. Dad slept on a roll away bed right next to me and baby Braukmann.

We have finally decided on a name for our little girl - Grace Josephine!

Today, Grace had her first doctor's appointment since we left the hospital Thursday evening. Unfortunately, because it took so long for my milk to come in, Grace lost 13% of her birthweight and is now 6 pounds, 13 ounces. Although many babies lose weight initially, the doctor does not want to see anything more than a 10% weight loss. Now that Grace is eating well and feeding regularly, the doctor is not worried. Hopefully, Grace will begin to gain weight adaquately! Our little peanut is so tiny!

Today Erica, Ben, and Grant came to meet our little Grace! Grant has grown up so much since we saw him last. He is going to be a great older cousin! It was so nice to see Ben and Erica as it has been since Easter since we saw them last. Grandpa and Grandma Braukmann also came to stay the night with us and to spend time with Grace. Grace was in high heaven with so many people around to love on her!

Today, Grace's bellybutton finally fell off which is a huge relief for mom because, I got to say, it grossed me out a bit!

We also went to the doctor today to have an ultrasound on Grace's hips. Because some breech babies develope a click, we wanted to be sure that everything was ok. The radiologist says Grace is just perfect! Although I know he meant her hips, she truly is perfect in every other way possible!

Tomorrow, we are heading home to visit grandpas and grandmas and GREAT grandmas! Jake is heading to Canada for his annual fishing trip so Grace and I are on our own!

This weekend, Grace and I headed to the New York Mills / Dent area. On Thursday night, Grace met her Great Grandma Arliss, Great Aunt Daidre and Great Uncle Andrew. She was in heaven with so many people to hold and cuddle her!

Friday morning, Grace, Oma Peeters, and I went to see Great Grandma Aggie. She held little Grace with so much pride! Grace also got to meet her Great Uncle Gordy and Great Uncle Gary and 2nd cousin, Sam. We are excited for Sam and Paul's wedding and Grace can't wait to meet the rest of the family!
Friday night, Grace met her auntie Audrey. Grace got to experience her first campfire that night for a bit before she went to bed. Saturday, her auntie Marcie and Uncle Andy came to meet Grace for the first time as well. She also got to meet her two cousins, Henry and Madelyn! We all went for a walk and got to see some baby birds in a nest. We stopped to visit Bill who has not met Grace until then. She held a baby turtle, took lots of naps, and cuddled with me, Ruby, and Henry Sunday morning.

Sunday afternoon, Grandma Laurine and Great Grandma Arliss came to visit and brought two super adorable little outfits for Grace. Grace was excited to see the grandmas again so soon!
The highlight of the weekend was seeing Dad again Tuesday afternoon. We both missed him a lot and dad couldn't believe how much Grace had changed in four days!

Friday was daddy's birthday! Scott Torgerson (Jake's old roomie) and his wife Jenna and Noel and Morgan came to visit. Jake was really excited to show off our little peanut and to see the guys. It was nice to have them here to help celebrate Jake's birthday. Last night Grace was up ALL night and finally fell asleep at 6:45 this morning only to wake up again 45 minutes later. It was a long night and quite the birthday present for Jake.

Last night we took Grace to the ER. She cried for almost 9 hours straight. The only time she wouldn't cry is if she fell asleep for a few minutes or if I was nursing. She didn't have a fever but her cries sounded painful so we took her in at about 9:00 last night. Of course, as soon as we got into the car, she fell asleep and when we got to the hospital, she woke up and didn't cry (she even smiled once). Figures. After the doctor saw her, her diagnosis was: infant irritablity - the doctor thought Grace could have been tired from a long weekend and upset about her schedule being thrown off. Schedule!? Sure. All is good today. She's as happy as can be and I am enjoying her responsive smiling. She's such an angel!

Weight: 9 pounds 14 ounces

We got to show our little Grace off this weekend in Jackson at a high school friend's wedding. Although nursing was a pain (they set me up with a rocker in the janitor's closet in the kitchen) it was good to see everyone and have some nice adult conversation.

We got a new monitor this weekend from Babies R' Us and I love it! I also went to the Christian bookstore today and bought some fun books, DVD's, and CD's. Grant's baptism is this weekend and we are very excited! Grace can't wait to see her cousin again!

This weekend was a great weekend for family! We spent Friday afternoon / night at Opa and Oma's. Grace had a ball! We attended a wedding on Saturday in Staples. Grace got to meet Great Uncle Jim and Great Aunt Kathy and lots of other family members! She wore an adorable green dress with pink and red cherries. We forgot her bloomers but she was cuddled in the stroller or in a blanket so no one noticed!

On Sunday, we had fun hanging out with cousin Grant. It was his baptism! Grace got to meet all kinds of new people including Alice, Great Aunty Ann and Adam, Great Uncle Brian and Great Aunt Jean, Great Uncle Dean and Great Aunt Janice to name a few. She was all dolled up in a pretty blue dress and had a photo shoot with her handsome cousin Grant. They are going to be such good friends!

Grace is excited to wear the adorable jean jacket Grandma Laurine gave her!

This morning, Grace and I took a trip to the court house to get a copy of her birth certificate! We also enjoyed the company of our neighbors at Tess's tea party this afternoon. A friend from work called yesterday to set up a lunch / play date with Grace and her little Ella. It is going to be a busy week!
